There are a lot of things to complain about when it comes to school, but my least favorite thing was always giving an oral presentation. As a shy girl, I dreaded the days when a teacher would tell us that we had to get up in front of the class and give a presentation or read an essay or speech. It was so terrifying to me that I spent many nights crying myself to sleep worrying about it. It didn’t matter how much I practiced in front of my parents or the mirror – whenever I got up in front of my class, it was the same thing: my cheeks would turn bright red, I would fidget, and my voice would get so quiet that at least one person would obnoxiously yell out, “What? I can’t hear her.”
Basically, oral presentations were always a nightmare for me. When I found out in college that I had to take a public speaking course in order to graduate, I felt like the world was playing a cruel joke on me. But even though the class was torture, by the end of the semester, I had actually learned some pretty valuable tips. And while I by no means felt comfortable speaking in front of a group of people, I did feel a little bit better about the idea of it.
