It’s easy to assume that opening up to your significant other will get easier with time. And if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Because the more you get to know your partner, the more comfortable they become around you. And the more comfortable they are around you, the more they share. Pretty simple, right?
But the fact of the matter is, being open with your significant other is not that simple. And this might come as a surprise, but it can also be tricky for couples who know each other really well. So if you’re in this position and you feel like your partner just won’t open up to you, know that you’re not alone and that it’s probably not your fault. It’s important to remember that opening up emotionally is a pretty huge step, and there are (usually) rational explanations for why a person might be struggling with it. So for example, they may have been through a lot in past relationships, which caused them to build a wall and guard themselves. They probably need more time to figure out if they can trust you, or maybe they just don’t feel close enough to you yet.

Don't say "you're hard to read" or anything like that! Be soft and gentle, since he is a shy guy. You don't want to come off too strong and make him even more shy, or make him pull himself away. Make it clear that you’re confused about what’s happening between you two, and that way he might tell you how he's feeling and you know what’s going on inside his head. Maybe he is shy and he isn’t that comfortable with his friends, but if he chats away with you that means he’s comfortable around you. When a shy guy is comfortable around a girl, it’s a very good thing, it could mean that he likes you or as a sister, it all depends on how shy he is.
